The VT Hunter is an off-road-capable, open tactical vehicle with a box-section frame and self-supporting floor assembly, protected against DM 51 hand grenades and DM 31 anti-personnel mines. The 3.2-litre common-rail diesel engine with chain-driven timing gears is extremely robust with low consumption and can also be run on L34 (converted kerosene). When all locks of the four-wheel-drive transmission – front axle/rear axle/centre lock – are engaged, a longitudinal compensation removes any tension from the drivetrain. This ensures a long service life of the drivetrain (high mileage). Thanks to its reduction gear, all torques in the drivetrain are extremely reduced and do not stress the drive axles and rotating parts (one of the last vehicles with a reduction/transfer gearbox). The VT Hunter can be air-lifted open or closed (C130 – 3 units, Chinook transport helicopter – 2 units, Blackhawk sling system – 1 unit). With a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, heavy trailers or guns can also be towed. With a payload of 1.1 to 1.5 tonnes, it offers independence for special operations over long distances for surveillance, reconnaissance, patrols and offensive missions. The high off-road capability and speed of the VT Hunter make it an ideal vehicle for special forces. It is equipped with machine-gun mounts at the front and rear and with a ring mount on the roof (mechanical or electric) with a 12.7 weapon mounting adapter. The machine-gun mount has an ammunition box for 300 rounds of 12.7 ÜSMG ammunition. In addition, an ammunition rack system for up to 2,000 rounds is installed on the vehicle (can be individually designed on request), as well as two full sets of smoke grenade launchers with dual-use capability. There are also 4-6 sand ladders of 1.6 m length and 3 of 1 metre, which can also be folded down at the side and used as luggage racks or makeshift bridge elements, as well as ample space for provisions, water and luggage. This keeps the interior free of luggage. The combined system of a VTTV Tactical Vehicle and 4-8 VT Hunters represents an adapted tactic to ensure long range and extreme flexibility. At the same time, it can be deployed in the shortest time with minimal effort by airlift, overland or by water.
